“I think horses are the kindest and most tolerant of the domesticated animals. They are the most patient teachers.”
Todd graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995, and spent several years practicing as a large animal vet. Why spend your days as a farrier instead of a vet? Todd's answer: "While practicing as a veterinarian, it seemed like everything was somehow connected to the horses feet."
Since beginning his career as a farrier 1991, Todd has developed an impressive resume including working with international riders and the USET at competitions like Lumulehn, Rolex, Bromont, Fox Hall and Jersey Fresh. A highlight of his career has been taking care of the United States Equestrian Team since 2003, primarily working for the Show Jumping and Dressage teams. During this time Todd has been fortunate enough to be part of 2 Olympic gold medals, 2 Rolex wins and countless other successes.
In addition to practicing at some of the world's most prestigious competitions, Todd has developed a following of many upper level event horses and has been fortunate to work on some of the great ones such as, Eagle Lion, Winsome Andante and Critical Decision on a regular basis.
Todd is regarded as one of the nations top resources in his field, and has been published in many popular magazines, textbooks, farrier journals and scientific journals in both the human and veterinary field.

We have to remember we are all here for the horses.
Dan Martzall, CF
Dan was born and raised in Lancaster County Pennsylvania and graduated from Millersville University in 2003 with a degree in Environmental Geography. Immediately upon graduating from college He enrolled in Kentucky Horseshoeing School in Shelbyville Kentucky. Although Dan did not grow up with horses he developed an interest in driving and draft horses, working on multiple farms throughout his time in college.
“I always found it extremely interesting when the farrier would come take care of the horses at these
farms. One day a co-worker suggested that I ride along with her farrier just to see what it was like.
Shoeing horses appealed to me on so many levels. I love being outside, working with my hands, working
with animals and solving problems.” --Dan
After graduating from shoeing school Dan found an apprenticeship in Chester County Pennsylvania with Steve Teichman and Todd Meister. In 2004 he passed the American Farriers Association Certified Farrier exam. Dan works with many equine disciplines including 3 day event horses, dressage, hunters and jumpers. Many of his horses and clients have competed in national and international events including Kentucky Land Rover 3 day, Fairhill International 3 day, Badminton Horse Trials and Burleghy Horse trials.
Dan currently resides in West Grove Pennsylvania with his wife and daughter.

Dustin Fulton
Dustin has spent most of his life with horses, which helped him chose a career so involved in the equine world. He graduated horseshoeing school almost 10 years ago and has been working with Todd and Dan ever since, perfecting his trade and learning from both.
A defining moment in his career as a farrier was successfully shoeing a laminitic horse on his own, using the skills and tools he learned from both Todd and Dan. His love for horses is what makes him brave the hard work in all kinds of weather conditions day in and day out, all year long.

"I'm a people person, but sometimes I'd rather talk to horses instead."
Victoria Protasenko
Victoria rode horses, foxhunted and taught riding lessons all throughout high school and college, while also dabbling with artistic welding. She decided that pursuing a career as a farrier provided her with an ideal opportunity to combine her passions for both horses and metalwork.
Victoria has been with Red Oak Equine for almost two years, and she is well on her way to fulfilling her goal of shoeing top end performance horses. Her apprenticeship with Todd and Dan has given her a strong foundation in the industry, and she is looking forward to steadily progressing towards her goal each year.
